I recently watched Insurgent. Lionsgate sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movie blog. Insurgent is a sequel to Divergent, which I reviewed almost 18 months ago. Insurgent takes place shortly after Divergent. In the sequel, an artifact is recovered and the secret to opening it requires a Divergent to pass a series of tests. I thought the Divergent sequel was better than the first movie. Insurgent seems to flow better, the pacing was faster, and the story more interesting. Insurgent is available now on Blu-ray and DVD. Continue reading to learn six things about Insurgent.
Six Things About the Insurgent Blu-ray
The story is the second in a trilogy
Insurgent is the second movie in the Divergent books trilogy. In the first film, we learn that in the future, factions were created to maintain peace. Tris, the main character, joins the Dauntless faction. Dauntless is essentially a police force. During a test, Tris discovers she is Divergent, which mean she has the characteristics of multiple factions. In the first story, a member of the Erudite faction takes control of the Dauntless faction and forces Tris and her boyfriend, Four, to flee.
Tris goes through more simulations
Like the first movie, Tris undergoes a series of simulations in the second movie. This time around, she is forced to unlock a mysterious artifact. In order to do that, Tris has to pass five simulations — one for each faction. But unlike the first film, the simulations can hurt Tris physically. In fact, everyone that have attempted the simulations have died.
It’s better than the first Divergent film
I thought Insurgent was much better than the first Divergent movie. In my opinion, the first film was too slow. The pacing of Insurgent was faster and the story was more interesting.
Shailene Woodley and Theo James are back
All the main characters that didn’t die in the first Divergent movie are back in the sequel. Shailene Woodley (Tris) and Theo James (Four) are back as the main characters we love. And Kate Winslet (Jeanine) is back as the character we all hate. Other cast members include Jai Courtney (Eric), Octavia Spencer (Johanna), Mekhi Phifer (Max), Ansel Elgort (Caleb), Miles Teller (Peter), Cynthia Barrett (Amity Divergent Woman), Justice Leak (Amity Divergent Husband), Lyndsi LaRose (Amity Teacher), Charlie Bodin (Amity Server), Zoë Kravitz (Christina), Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Will), and Tony Goldwyn (Andrew). Insurgent was directed by Robert Schwentke.
Insurgent is rated PG-13
The 119-minute movie is rated PG-13 for intense violence and action throughout, some sensuality, thematic elements and brief language. In my opinion, Insurgent is fine for most kids.
