New DVD and Blu-ray movies this week include 300: Rise of an Empire (Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey), Rob the Mob (Michael Pitt, Ray Romano), Blood Ties (Clive Owen, Billy Crudup) and Enemy (Jake Gyllenhaal, Melanie Laurent). Blu-ray and DVD movie coming out the week of June 24, 2014
- 300: Rise of an Empire
Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster 300, this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield — on the sea — as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.
- Rob the Mob
Rob the Mob chronicles the lives of a real-life Bonnie and Clyde who made the bold move to rob and humiliate some of New York City’s most powerful mobsters. Fresh from prison for a small-time crime, reunited lovers Thomas and Rosie find themselves in need of cash. After hearing testimony from John Gottis high profile trial that mob social clubs are gun-free, Thomas and Rosie brazenly rob these underground spots operated by major crime families in the City. Unwittingly, they come across something much more valuable than money: a list of every mobster in the families. Now the feds, family members, and rival mobsters are on the hunt for the most notorious lovers since Romeo & Juliet.
Adam Bell is a glum, disheveled history professor, who seems disinterested even in his beautiful girlfriend Mary. Watching a movie on the recommendation of a colleague, Adam spots his double, a bit-part actor named Anthony Clair, and decides to track him down. The identical men meet and their lives become bizarrely and irrevocably intertwined. Gyllenhaal is transfixing as both Adam and Anthony, provoking empathy as well as disapproval while embodying two distinct personas.
- Blood Ties
Blood Ties is a 2013 French-American crime thriller film directed by Guillaume Canet. It is a remake of 2008 French thriller Les liens du sang by Jacques Maillot, an adaptation of the French novel of the same name by Bruno and Michel Papet.
