John Wick (Keanu Reeves)

New DVD and Blu-ray movies this week include The Best of Me (James Marsden, Michelle Monaghan), John Wick (Keanu Reeves), Dracula Untold (Luke Evans), Ouija (Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto), and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby (James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain). I have not seen any of the films, but they all sound interesting. In fact, if I find the time, I would like to watch all of the new releases. DVDs coming out the week of February 3, 2015

  • The Best of Me
Based on the #1 New York Times Best Seller from celebrated author Nicholas Sparks comes this tender, romantic drama about the timeless power of love. When former high school sweethearts Dawson and Amanda (James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan) meet at a loved one’s funeral 20 years after tragedy separated them, their love is reignited. As they recall and relive the past, they come to a deeper understanding about the choices they’ve made. Also starring Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato, and featuring beautiful scenery along with music by Lady Antebellum, The Best of Me is a powerfully romantic story of love, hope and second chances.
  • John Wick
An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is a fresh and stylized take on the “assassin genre”.
  • Dracula Untold
The origin story of the man who became the enduring legend of Dracula is told in Dracula Untold, an epic action-adventure starring Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, The Hobbit series) in the title role. Gary Shore directs, and Michael De Luca produces.
  • Ouija
In Ouija, a group of friends must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. Stiles White directs the supernatural thriller that is produced by Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller (The Purge, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th) alongside Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series, The Purge), Bennett Schneir (Battleship) and Hasbro.
  • The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby
Writer/director Ned Benson ambitiously captures a complete picture of a relationship in the beautifully relatable portrait of love, empathy and truth that is The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. Once happily married, Connor (James McAvoy) and Eleanor (Jessica Chastain) suddenly find themselves as strangers longing to understand each other in the wake of tragedy. The film explores the couple’s story as they try to reclaim the life and love they once knew and pick up the pieces of a past that may be too far gone. Screened for the first time at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Benson’s latest version of their story combines his previous two films — titled Him and Her — uniting their perspectives and taking a further look into the subjectivity of relationships.
