Movies for April 18, 2014

Transcendence

Dr. Will Caster (Johnny Depp) is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him. However, in their attempt to destroy Will, they inadvertently become the catalyst for him to succeed — to be a participant in his own transcendence. For his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend Max Waters (Paul Bettany), both fellow researchers, the question is not if they can…but if they should. Their worst fears are realized as Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown. The only thing that is becoming terrifyingly clear is there may be no way to stop him.

Fading Gigolo

Fioravante (John Turturro), at his friend Murray’s (Woody Allen) suggestion, enters into the world’s oldest profession, and ends up finding something he didn’t know he was looking for. The seed of this scheme is planted when Murray’s beautiful dermatologist Dr. Parker (Sharon Stone) mentions she’s looking for a man to participate in a ménage à trois with her and her equally gorgeous friend Selima (Sofia Vergara). Contending with the recent closure of his bookshop, Murray recognizes the financial potential of this proposal and sets about convincing Fioravante to consummate the deal. While Fioravante is at first hesitant at the prospect of being Murray’s “ho,” he also needs the cash and comes to realize that there are worse ways to make a living than making two attention starved women happy. A partnership is born and Fioravante is soon on his way to Dr. Parker’s bedroom for a pre-ménage tryout.

Bears

In an epic story of breathtaking scale, Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure “Bears” showcases a year in the life of a bear family as two impressionable young cubs are taught life’s most important lessons. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop teeming with life, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the bears emerge from hibernation to face the bitter cold. The world outside is exciting — but risky — as the cubs’ playful descent down the mountain carries with it a looming threat of avalanches. As the season changes from spring to summer, the brown bears must work hard to find food — ultimately feasting at a plentiful salmon run — while staying safe from rival male bears and predators, including an ever-present wolf pack. “Bears” captures the fast-moving action and suspense of life in one of the planet’s last great wildernesses.

Authors Anonymous

After a dysfunctional group of unpublished writers accept ditzy Hannah (Kaley Cuoco of TV’s THE BIG BANG THEORY) into their fold, the last thing they expect is her overnight success. While her career takes off, her eccentric and envious colleagues struggle to find their own way. A lonely pizza boy (Chris Klein of AMERICAN PIE) tries to deal with his growing crush on Hannah. An optometrist (Dylan Walsh of TV’s NIP/TUCK) stalks a literary agent (Jonathan Banks of TV’s BREAKING BAD) for his stay-at-home wife (Teri Polo of MEET THE PARENTS). And a military veteran (Dennis Farina of GET SHORTY) starts selling his Clancy-esque masterpiece at a local hardware store. Tensions rise, rivalries form, and hearts are broken. Rejection turns to desperation.

A Haunted House 2

Crossing new lines and breaking old barriers, A HAUNTED HOUSE 2 is the sequel to the hilarious box-office hit starring Marlon Wayans as Malcolm who, after exorcising the demons of his ex, is starting fresh with his new girlfriend and her two children. After moving into their dream home, Malcolm is once again plagued by bizarre paranormal events. With spine-tingling tension and hilarious punchlines A HAUNTED HOUSE 2 is inspired by the latest supernatural horror movie franchises and shows that this time… it’s not just the house that’s haunted.

Kid Cannabis

KID CANNABIS is the true story of an Idaho teen dropout who builds a multimillion-dollar marijuana ring by trafficking drugs through the woods across the Canadian border. But his pursuit of the high life — complete with girls, guns, and vicious rival drug lords — may leave this ex-pizza boy in way over his head.

13 Sins

A cryptic phone call sets off a dangerous game of risks for Elliot, a down-on-his luck salesman. The game promises increasing rewards for completing 13 tasks, each more sinister than the last.

Make Your Move

Donny’s a cocky kid from New York who likes to dance. He goes to New Orleans and he unwittingly takes part in a criminal act. He is arrested and sent to jail. He gets out on parole and makes a living by dancing in the streets. But his parole officer tells him to stop it because he’s not suppose to be where he goes to dance as part of his parole. 1. The critics are being pretty hard on Depp in this movie but I would like to see for myself. It sounds interesting.
