I watched Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials last night. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movie blog. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is actually the second film in the series. I loved The Scorch Trials and thought it was better than the first Maze Runner movie. Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is available now on Blu-ray and DVD. Continue reading to learn six things about the movie.
I watched the new Fantastic Four movie over the weekend. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movie blog. The new FF film is a reboot of the 2005 Fantastic Four movie. Personally, I liked the original series better. I think it’s because the first film featured Chris Evans and Jessica Alba (in my dreams, she’s my girlfriend). Even though I thought the first FF movie was better, I think the reboot is still worth watching if you’re a fan of the superhero genre. Fantastic Four is available now on Digital HD, and will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on December 15th — just in time for the holidays. Continue reading to learn five things about the movie.
I watched Paper Towns over the weekend. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movies blog. The film is based on the Paper Towns novel by John Green. The story is about a boy who follows a series of clues to find the love of his life. I enjoyed the movie and really liked it. I love the two main characters in the story, but wish they were together in more of the scenes. In case you are wondering, the term paper towns refers to fake cities map makers place in their maps to discourage people from using their maps to make other maps. Paper Towns is available now on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD. BTW, for a limited time, you get the Paper Towns fan pack Blu-ray with collectible packaging that includes sticky notes of inspirational quotes from the film and a U.S. map. I watched Tomorrowland over the weekend. Disney sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movies blog. In Tomorrowland, we see a place where dreamers can dream and tinker to their hearts content. It wasn’t a great film, but I liked it. As you can probably guess, Tomorrowland is another movie based on attractions at Disneyland and Disney World. The film isn’t as good as the Pirates of the Caribbean series, but better than the Haunted Mansion. Tomorrowland is available now on Blu-ray and DVD. I recently watched the 40th Anniversary version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movies blog. Believe or not, this was the first time I’ve seen the Rock Horror Picture Show. The film has a strong cult following, but it didn’t appeal to me. It wasn’t a horrible movie — just not my type of film. Plus you have to be in the mood to dress up and sing along to really enjoy Rock Horror. BTW, if you a big fan of the Rock Horror Picture Show, you should seriously consider purchasing the Ultimate Collector’s Edition. The new ultimate edition includes limited edition packaging, exclusive collectible pink surgical gloves, fishnet stockings and a soundtrack. The Rocky Horror Picture Show 40th Anniversary Edition is available now.
I watched Spy over the weekend. The movie is about a CIA analyst who goes under cover to track down a nuclear bomb. The film stars Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, and Jude Law. Melissa is funny in the movie, but another character is actually funnier in the film (more on this later). The story is interesting and very funny (my wife laughed her head off), but a bit predictable. However, there are some twists that made the story more entertaining. Spy is available now on Blu-ray and DVD. Continue reading to learn five things about the Blu-ray.
My children and I saw an early screening of Hotel Transylvania 2 last weekend. We loved it. Two of my kids thought it was better than the first film. And two of us liked the first film better. In the sequel, Dracula is once again butting in where he doesn’t belong. This time around, he tries his best to bring out the vampire in his grandson. Hotel Transylvania 2 (Sony Pictures Animation) opens in theaters today. Continue reading to learn four things about the animated film.
Just dropping a quick note to let you know there’s a special screening of Life in a Walk in the Portland area on Wednesday, September 2nd (7:30pm). The film was directed by PAC 12 Sports Broadcaster Yogi Roth and tells the story about how he and his father took a journey together when Yogi realize that his time with his father was fleeting. The screening is not free. However, Brian Wheeler from Rip City Radio will be a special guest and moderator for the evening along with Yogi Roth (Q&A with Yogi immediately following the screening). If you’re interested, the screening will be at Fox Tower Stadium 10 (846 SW Park Avenue).
I watched Far From the Madding Crowd (giveaway) over the weekend. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movie blog. The film is based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy. I have not read the book, so I’m not sure how closely it follows the original storyline. But I can tell you I like the movie. Far From the Madding Crowd is essentially a love story about an independent woman and three men who are attracted to her. The story takes place in Victorian England, so Bathsheba’s independent nature was very different from the other women during that time period. Far From the Madding Crowd is available now on Blu-ray and DVD. Continue reading to learn five things about the film.
I recently watched Insurgent. Lionsgate sent me the Blu-ray for review on my movie blog. Insurgent is a sequel to Divergent, which I reviewed almost 18 months ago. Insurgent takes place shortly after Divergent. In the sequel, an artifact is recovered and the secret to opening it requires a Divergent to pass a series of tests. I thought the Divergent sequel was better than the first movie. Insurgent seems to flow better, the pacing was faster, and the story more interesting. Insurgent is available now on Blu-ray and DVD.
