Six Things About The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty on Monday. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment sent me the Blu-ray Combo Pack for review on my movie blog. The film is a charming story about a day dreamer who eventually goes on a real adventure. The ending is predictable, but the acting is good, and I loved the cinematography and music in this movie. The story is based on a short story by James Thurber. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is available now on Blu-ray and DVD.

6 Things About The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

  1. Walter is a day dreamer
The main character, Walter Mitty, is a day dreamer. In real life, he lives a boring life. But in his day dreams, Walter is a hero and adventurer. Sometimes Walter is so absorbed in his day dream that he appears to be frozen to the people around him. In the movie, Walter eventually goes on a real adventure when a negative goes missing and he needs to find it for the final cover of Life magazine. The publication was purchased by another company, and the new company decided to end the print version of the magazine and go online exclusively.

  2. The story is somewhat realistic
Most of the movie is believable. Walter is a very ordinary person living a very ordinary life. He escapes his boring life through his day dreams. However, as the story progress, Walter day dreams less often and actually goes on a couple adventures. In the pursuit of the missing negative, Walter flies to Greenland and ends up jumping into the ocean from a helicopter. Then Walter goes to Iceland, where he escapes an erupting volcano. Later, Walter goes hiking up the Himalayas by himself and finds the photographer of the missing negative. All these things are possible in real life, but a bit far-fetched considering Walter has never been anywhere or done anything adventurous.

  3. Get a free Shutterfly photo book
Both the Blu-ray and DVD includes a promo code for a free Shutterfly photo book. The code is good for a 8×8 hard cover photo book valued at $29.99. The special code is good through August 31, 2014.

  4. The Blu-ray Combo Pack includes exclusive features
In addition to the movie on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD (Ultraviolet streaming), the Blu-ray Combo Pack includes extras not included on the DVD.

  5. Ben Stiller acts and directs in this film
Ben Stiller is the star of the movie. He played the part of Walter Mitty. In addition, Ben also directed the film. I thought he did a good job in both roles. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty also featured Kristen Wiig (Cheryl Melhoff), Jon Daly (Tim Naughton), Kathryn Hahn (Odessa Mitty), Terence Bernie Hines (Gary Mannheim), Adam Scott (Ted Hendricks), Paul Fitzgerald (Don Proctor), Grace Rex (Cheryl’s co-worker), Alex Anfanger (Ted’s toner box associate), Amanda Naughton (female editor), Adrian Martinez (Hernando), Nolan Carley (Western Union employee), Joey Slotnick (retirement home administrator), Shirley MacLaine (Edna Mitty), and Gary Wilmes (Walter’s dad).

  6. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is rated PG
The 114-minute movie is safe for kids to watch. It’s rated PG for some crude comments, language and action violence. There’s a little profanity in the film, but nothing really bad.
